It’s all about giving thanks!

happy Thanksgiving

One of my favorite things to do at Thanksgiving is to set around the table and share what you are thankful for. I love hearing what everyone has to say, and it makes me think of things that sometimes I had not thought about or have even taken for granted. It reminds me to give thanks for those things as well. As we are preparing this week to gather around the table with family and friends I would like to take a minute to share with you some special words of thanks from some of our Camp Craig Allen family:

Chris Fish- “I am thankful for my loving family and loyal friends as well as the generous support of Camp Craig Allen and it’s many volunteers.”

Racquel Flores- “As always, I am thankful for my friends and family. This year brought a lot of loss and strife, but I have a great support system that never fails.”

Miles Shaffer- “As cheesy as it may sound to some, the one thing I am most grateful for that branches out to everything good. It makes everything that is hard or bad that happens ok because of love. Love is what makes everything worth while. Not just romantic love, but love at it’s core means putting others before you and making others lives better at your expense. You don’t always or at all times like the ones you love, but because you love, you aren’t driven by feelings. The author of love designed it to be selfless, so if anything is good or represents love it originates from the true author of love who sent his son to die on a tree for everyone to have access to the most authentic love of all time (aka Jesus). So for me if there is anything to be grateful for, that is number one on my list (LOVE).”

Ashley Lawson- “I am thankful for Dawn and all she does for us. Also I’m thankful for my family and all the love they give to me. I’m especially thankful for my boyfriend and all the amazing friends I have.”

Fay Tamang- “For my life even though I’m going through some hard times right now I am thankful to still be alive and to have my family and friends around for their support and most of all my grandchildren that means so much to me!”

Brady Smith- “I am thankful for my parents, they are loving and take great care of me! I’m thankful for a lot of things but mostly my parents!”

Lauren Taylor- “I’m thankful for the life that I have because I think the life I have has made me a humble person and has made me want to make a difference in the world for people in similar situations. I’m also thankful for the family and friends that I have come to know because they let me know that it’s ok to be me and that they love me regardless and some people cannot say they have that in their lives.”

Charlie Hughes- “I’m thankful for great friends who are understanding and caring, and puppy kisses!”

Blaine Bridgeford- “I am thankful for Dawn’s boundless energy, and that she actually does what she says she is going to do! Such a rare trait these days!”

Stephanie-Kilgore- “DITTO to what everyone said!! For reals, I am very thankful for my Camp Craig Allen family and thankful for the opportunity to be the blog writer! I am so very thankful for God’s grace and never failing love!”

Thank you to everyone who shared! I was really looking forward to posting and reading each and every one of what you are thankful for this Thanksgiving!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!

Having a SPOOKtacular good time!

_WHP1481On October 24 Mike Shipka graciously opened up the doors to United Access in Carollton for an evening of fun, food, fellowship, candy, & more candy!! Everyone who went had a great time, and the 3rd annual Halloween costume contest was awesome! I am pretty sure it has been happening for 3 years now. I remember when Racquel Flores , Jason Roberts , and myself started it. I was totally bummed that I was not going to be able to make it this year. I am already planning next year’s costume so watch out!!

I got a hold of some pictures from that evening of the winners . I have to say they were all so good that I know what I was thinking would not have been able to beat them! Very talented and creative!

1st place went to Matt, Amber, Jasper Martin as they were the Flintstones! Making the car out of Matt’s chair was brilliant! Jasper was the cutest Bam Bam ever!! I like how Superman is acting all cool, calm, and collected like he belongs there in Bedrock, LOL!

_WHP1487

2nd place was Laura Halvorson, Ms. Wheelchair Texas 2014, as the TARDIS from Doctor Who. This was really really clever, but I must admit I did not know what exactly the costume was until she told me.

_WHP1527

“Not many of the people knew what my costume was. I was “the police phone box” which made me giggle,” Laura said!

For those of you who do not know the Doctor Who is a British Sci Fi show that has been around for over 50 years. It’s not as popular in America as it is overseas.

Getting 3rd-place was Racquel Flores as the kissing booth for CCA!! This was great!! I liked all of the detail that was put into it.

_WHP1509

_WHP1514

Hey, hey did these people pay??? If not, they owe CCA some dough!! Both of those phrases rhymed, LOL!

Until next year, rolling on, Stephanie

Honoring those who serve us!

11 Tuesday Nov 2014

I have had a long line of relatives who have served in the military, and have always known to give them respect and honor. I never really comprehended what that totally meant until I did a paid internship for 2 summers after college at the Carswell Air Force Base. I worked in the medical department with the Navy but for the Marines in 2005 & 2006. I did mostly data entry for the medical records.  I will never forget on the way to work as my mom and I went into the base we would have to pull for van over to a stopping place, put it in Park, and stand (or sit in my case) and salute the American flag at 8 AM every morning as the National Anthem played over the intercom. It would give me such a warm feeling, and make me teary eyed. I totally loved every minute of working there (seeing men in uniform all day wasn’t to shabby either!!) Working there definitely gave me a greater appreciation for the men and women in our Military.

With all my love and respect, I honor each and every one of you who have served and are continuing to serve our country. It is because of people like you that we are free!!

I would like to give a shout out to Camp Craig Allen’s very own board member Glen Bentley for giving his service and continuing to give his time to our Armed Forces! We love you Glen!
