Hello my fellow blog readers, I know it if it’s been a while since the last post. Mr. Chris Fish has stepped down from doing the blog, and I have stepped up! Let me introduce myself, my name is Stephanie Kilgore. I am one of the board of directors for Camp Craig Allen, and I am also the online support group coordinator on Facebook, www.facebook.com/groups/cca.corral/. Since I have the gift for gab and was offered to take over writing for the blog I could not pass it by! Five years ago I was writing a blog about living my life with my physical disability. Life got in the way (I hate it when that happens, LOL), and I stopped writing in it. Every now and again I do look back on there to do some much-needed editing. I have every intention of getting back to it someday. I was writing it in chronological order, and was 21 (on the blog) when I stopped writing in it . Writing is very therapeutic for me. At the age of 12 I was diagnosed with a physical disability called Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA). It is a progressive nerve disorder that is also a form of muscular dystrophy. It affects my balance, coordination, muscle control, and fine motor skills. My nerve endings are deteriorating which causes them not to regenerate. I walked until I was 18, drove a car for seven years, and now that I am 39 I am doing good to drive my power wheelchair. Having FA does not define who I am, but it definitely has made my life challenging! It has given me several life lessons that I always try to take with me: never sweat the small stuff, attitude is everything, don’t cry over spilled milk, and that laughter is the best medicine!
Come join me for a weekend of laughter at the next Camp Craig Allen camp session May 9-11! If you are a returning camper, volunteer, or have never been to camp before (you will love it, and I am speaking from experience.) EVERYONE will need to go to the website, www.campcraigallen.org to register. Once on the site you will see the tab “About Our Camp,” then go to “Hello Campers!” Find the form that best fits you, fill it out, and submit! There is some exciting things planned for the weekend that you won’t want to miss! I hope to see you there. The registration deadline is Friday, May 2. That is this Friday.
Rolling on, Stephanie
