Twas the day after Christmas Camp, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The camp bedding was stacked on the washer with care,
In hopes that the energy to do it soon would be there.
The campers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Reese’s s’morses danced in their heads.
And Pudge in his ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long post-camp nap.
When in the office there arose such a clatter,
I sprang into my car to see what was the matter.
Away to Aubrey I flew like a flash,
Tore open the the warehouse and threw out the trash.
The gleam from the laptop glowed in Meagan’s eyes
and from outside their came a great cry.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But Dawn in a sweater covered in eight tiny reindeer.
With her iPad in hand, and all the camp gear,
I knew in a moment she was thinking of next year.
More rapid than eagles her dreams they came,
And she whistled, and shouted, and called campers by name!
“Now Jason! now Skylar! now, Stephen and Logan!
On, Raquel! On, Justin! on, on Courtney and Lauren!
LeAnn, Fishie and Stephanie! Kirk, Laura and Brady!
They had so much fun! Arion, Ashley and Charlie!”
We interns assembled and used our brains,
To thank our lucky stars to be friends with these names.
We had fished, done our hair, painted nails, played board games,
built wheelchairs, partied and autographed shirts and frames.
And then, in a twinkling, we were all on our own
Christmas Camp was over and we all had to groan.
We had so much fun, didn’t want it to end,
It seems like forever until again we see our friends.
Never fret, dear Campers, on this we have thought–
All the programs to plan, all the pizza to be bought.
Dawn has called together all of our minds
With this powerhouse, who know what great ideas we’ll find!
2013-it lay ahead and it twinkled! the possibilities so merry!
The camp sessions the sundae, the BBQ the cherry!
An Advocacy Summit, perhaps,
And Frisco plans? Oh the sketches and maps!
What I’m saying you see, is that we love you all dearly.
Our mission and values we take very seriously.
Our campers are our priority, and very high on the list,
We don’t want one single one of you to be missed!
We want you to feel loved, adored and quite cherished
All these opportunities for fellowship and fun, we don’t want to perish!
Dawn is hard at work, as well as us volunteers.
We want this to grow and flourish for the next thousand years!
Camp Craig Allen is here and always will be.
A place for acceptance and fun, as all you new campers in ’13 will see!
We want all of you to come–new and old alike.
(Maybe next Christmas Camp someone will be brave and pick up the karaoke mic!)
A few of our struggles: there’s still a lot of planning and the warehouse is messy.
We want our own camp and my rhymes are quite sketchy.
That’s for another day, though, and so I’ll just post what I might:
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”Side note: if you have pictures from camp, please send them to me at email@example.com !!!! I really want to assemble them and post a gallery for everyone! 🙂 Thanks for an awesome Christmas Camp everyone!!!
